Curettage and cautery are minimally invasive procedures commonly used to treat superficial skin cancers, benign skin conditions, and precancerous lesions. The technique involves gently scraping away abnormal tissue with a spoon-shaped instrument called a curette. After the tissue is removed, cautery controls bleeding and seals the area. This quick and low-risk treatment is especially effective for basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma in situ (Bowen’s disease).
